The Garrett GT and GTX series are all dual ball-bearing, precision-balanced, and oil- and water-cooled. There is also the older T series, which is mostly sleeve bearing. The GTX series differs from the normal GT in that they have a special, larger compressor wheel with more blades leading to higher performance and slightly better response. It is important for ball-bearing turbochargers not to receive too much oil pressure. Thus, an oil restrictor with a 0.9mm bore is used. A ball-bearing turbo generally spools up about 400-500 RPM earlier than a sleeve bearing turbo.
