The operating principle is quite simple:

In the closed state, the exhaust gases are directed through the muffler, as soon as the flap is open, a part goes through a continuous pipe, making the exhaust louder. The vacuum-controlled flap is closed in the vacuum area, it then opens as soon as the vacuum decreases or, in turbo engines, goes into overpressure. A hose is laid from the intake manifold to the vacuum box of the flap or the flap is regulated via a remote control or switch. A control valve is installed into the hose.
