In 1.8T tuning, many vehicle owners focus on better, more robust sound and significantly noticeable performance gains under the hood – but especially in times of emission stickers and the like, emission values are playing an increasingly important role. As part of the exhaust system, the catalytic converter is a crucial and even mandatory component used in the transformation of harmful to harmless emissions.

    • Carbon monoxide is converted to carbon dioxide
Especially in internal combustion engines, carbon monoxide CO is produced during incomplete combustion of fuels – a hazardous gas for humans. The transformation occurs into the less dangerous CO2 (carbon dioxide).

    • Nitrogen oxides are converted to nitrogen
Most often in the form of nitrogen monoxide (NO), nitrogen oxides are emitted to the atmosphere. Generally produced at high combustion temperatures, it's a toxic gas that can be converted to nitrogen by the catalytic converter.

    • Hydrocarbons (HC) are converted to water vapor
These gases are produced during incomplete combustion and are carcinogenic in certain amounts. For this reason, a catalytic converter is extremely important to transform the harmful HC into water vapor.

Why do you benefit from a race cat?

To answer that, it helps to take a closer look at the cat. The structure of a race or sports cat is visually very similar. Thus, the 1.8T race cat consists of a honeycomb body, a feature that makes its function possible. Whether made of ceramic or metal, the honeycomb structure creates more surface area over which the exhaust gases can be led away – resulting in an optimally achieved reaction. The exhaust gases are thus led through the cat from the engine, wherein the gases are transformed and measurably cleaner emissions are pushed out of the exhaust pipe to the outside.

To achieve maximally improved emission values for your vehicle as well, you can find various models in our online shop. For example, the Race Cat /Sports Cat 200 Cells Euro 4, suitable for various Audi and Passat models with plug and play. As you can see, this cat also has the advantage of fitting precisely in several car types, "plug and play" describes the ease with which the old cat can simply be swapped 1:1 for the new one. The registration according to §21 StVZO must be performed by an officially recognized expert and cannot be guaranteed. Since the exhaust behavior depends on several characteristics such as exhaust temperature, engine power, displacement, etc., the specified Euro standard can also not be guaranteed.

Still, there's the question of the famous 100 or 200 cells, as also found in the sports cat mentioned above. It's necessary to clear up the misconception right away that the cat would only have 200 cells with 200 cells. The term always refers to „cell per inch“, which is equivalent to 2.54 cm. A 1.8T sports cat with 200 cells thus has 200 cells per 2.54 cm – an area that will have a noticeable emission-reducing effect on your vehicle.
