The operation is quite simple:

In the closed state, the exhaust gases are directed through the muffler, as soon as the flap is open, part of it goes through a straight pipe, making the exhaust louder. The vacuum-controlled flap is closed in the vacuum area and opens as soon as the vacuum decreases or, in the case of turbo engines, goes into positive pressure. A hose is laid from the intake manifold to the vacuum canister of the flap, or the flap is controlled via a remote control or switch. A solenoid valve is then installed in the hose.
